I get Migraines what should I do
By Chris Crawford Herbalist 4 Vets

As some many of us suffer from migraines I would like to take this time to tell you how to battle them naturally. There is many things you should not do or eat so I will start there then move on to things that will help get rid of them.

There is many foods that can trigger a migraine it is not only specific foods but also bad dietary habits. There is so many foods that can cause migraines I will only list a few of the major ones here. Eating many types of aged cheeses, alcohol, food with additives and preservatives (processed foods), and for many very cold foods or drinks can play a major roll in the on coming of a Migraine. Tyramine is a natural substance found in protein-based foods. Tyramine forms from the breakdown of protein, and can trigger severe hypertension resulting in migraines.

By keeping a diary of the foods you ate on the days you get the migraines over time you will start to see a pattern and be able to start avoiding the the food items that trigger the migraines for you. The cause of your Migraines may not be only food related but I am willing to bet they are a contributor to triggering them.
Now that you know about things to avoid lets talk about a few things you need to eat to help prevent migraines. Eating foods rich in Magnesium, riboflavin, calcium and vitamin D have all been shown to prevent migraine attacks. Just remember when you go to the store it is always best to buy fresh as much as you can rather than eating prepackaged or canned foods as even though they may be healthy for you the additives and preservatives used on them are not. Eating fresh fish, broccoli, spinach, and drinking plenty of water to keep the toxins flushed from your body is a very good start.

Changing you diet and finding the foods that trigger migraines for you is a great start, however for many food Items are not the only things that can trigger a migraine. Stressful situations can also be a contributor so avoiding stress will also reduce the frequency of migraines.

Here is a short list of herbs that you can use to prevent a migraine or stop it once it has started. A lemon peal placed over the origin of the migraine will work wonders if you have a lemon around. Peppermint oil one drop on a paper towel placed over your nose and mouth 10 to 20 slow deep breaths in the nose out the mouth works 99% of the time. The herb feverfew, crampbark (many people have told me this is a womans herb because every thing they read about it talks about female issues this herb works for many medical issues NOT JUST ON WOMEN), and last but not least a very powerful herb that should be used under the suppervision of a doctor or a herbalist Lobelia.
