In all around 10 per cent of the entire area of South Vietnam was sprayed, destroying many millions of hectares of vegetation and 14 per cent of the rainforest. On top of untold ecological damage, problems such as cancer and birth defects subsequently emerged both in the Vietnamese population and in US and Australian servicemen and their children.
