#AgentOrange #NewJersey: New method of #cleaning #Passaic River #fails test in Lyndhurst
Environmental Protection Agency officials had hoped to use sediment washing at other contaminated sites. Instead the EPA will dredge and remove 20,000 cubic yards of sediment starting in May.
EPA ranked the Passaic River the second-most polluted in the country in 1970. The Diamond Alkali plant on the banks of the river produced "Agent Orange," a herbicide, from 1951 to 1969. Dioxin was a byproduct.
