A Texas Democrat is proposing an expansion of the employment protections for service members and veterans to prevent combat-wounded troops from being fired or demoted if they need time off for medical treatment.Under the proposal unveiled Friday by Rep. Lloyd Doggett, called the Wounded Veterans Job Security Act, the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act would be amended to protect wounded veterans from workplace discrimination if they need time off for treatment of war-related injuries or disabilities.
