Turner keeps heat on
VA leaders
U.S. Rep. Mike Turner said Tuesday he’s willing to apply congressional pressure on the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs to test more veterans for bloodborne pathogens after possible exposure at the Dayton VA Medical Center’s dental clinic.
A Dayton VA dentist, Dr. Dwight Pemberton, allegedly put at risk the health of hundreds — and perhaps thousands — of veterans as a result of infection control lapses. Some dental clinic supervisors reportedly knew of those alleged lapses — such as failing to change gloves and sterilize equipment between patients — prior to two whistleblowers coming forward in July 2010.
