Local DAV chapter celebrates 65th year
Membership rises along with number of disabled vets aware of benefits due

Vietnam veteran Roy Thomas said he was denied benefits for nearly seven years although he had his jugular vein removed because of cancer caused by Agent Orange exposure.

"If you don't have a local service agency fighting along with you, you're not going to get anywhere," he said.

Agent Orange exposure has caused Thomas to suffer from diabetes, adenopathy, memory loss and the loss of portions of his tongue, thyroid and tonsils, he said.

He is now 100 percent VA service connected.
