But Fort Detrick spokesman Chuck Gordon wrote in a statement Thursday that "USDA reports from 1964 indicate that more than 1.6 million pounds of 2,4,5-T were used by farmers/ranchers in the continental United States, (and) often sprayed the compound at rates of up to 3 pounds per acre.


During that same period the average farmer used nearly 50 (pounds) per year compared to Fort Detrick's scientific usage of only about 17 (pounds) during the entire 30-year period -- including indoor laboratory testing."
