Nevertheless, Tinh said it was a painful experience watching her daughter learn to write and throughout the process, found herself in tears. "I used to ask Tham to stop practising and quit school but she did not," said Tinh. The pen dropped over and over again because Tham's toes were too weak and the task was too painful. In summer, her face dripped with sweat while she diligently practised her craft.
Tham's disability is probably due to Agent Orange from her grandmother who used to volunteer in road maintenance in Thanh Hoa Province during the American War. Her son, Tham's uncle, was completely paralysed from birth and suffered mental disabilities .
The mother felt so much pain for her daughter's disability and worried greatly about her future.
The whole family has since committed wholeheartedly to taking care of Tham and she has only proved to be a source of joy and admiration for her family. She puts all her efforts into studying and doing her daily activities.
